The name
Marks made to last
In a cave on the southern coast of Africa, someone pressed a lattice of lines into ochre roughly 75,000 years ago — among the earliest marks people are known to have made for meaning alone. Whatever it meant, it took what every mark takes: a steady hand, and a mind gathered in one place.
We publish under the name as a standard for the work: make few marks, make them on purpose, and make them to last.
